The first-ever Comic Con Africa took place this past weekend and the event, which celebrates all things to do with geek culture, proved to be a very exciting one for Xbox gamers in South Africa.
With Comic Con events around the world featuring a strong showcase, it was only natural that Africa’s inaugural edition include an Xbox stand dedicated to showing off some of the most-anticipated upcoming titles. At this stand, players had the chance to try out the E3 demos of games such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and even Kingdom Hearts 3 (the game Square Enix is pushing so hard that it required three trailers at E3).
If that wasn’t enough, Xbox South Africa also ran an amazing competition in which entrants could win an Xbox One X with a custom design featuring Batman along with many other comic book characters. All people needed to do to enter was find at least five of the Xbox Orb stickers posted around the event and post photographic proof on social media. (I was able to find seven, and at the time of writing, I’m really hoping I win).
Comic Con is famed for its spectacular cosplay turnout, and the South African version of the event was no different. It was amazing to see the attention to detail that some fans had placed on their insanely-realistic costumes. Particularly cute was what appeared to be a father and his child dressed up as Master Chief and “baby Master Chief”.
Overall, the event proved to be a very fun experienced with a load of exciting things available for all those interested in gaming, comic books, sci-fi and fantasy lore and all things pop culture in general. If you didn’t get to attend Africa’s first ever Comic Con this past weekend and you’re into any of these things, you should really do yourself a favour and try to get a ticket for the next one. You really won’t be disappointed!
