Last week, Fortnite developer Epic Games revealed how players can protect them and their accounts due to a rise number of accounts being compromised.
What has been happening relates to their free-to-play mode, Battle Royale, regarding the in-game currency, V-bucks. While players don’t gain much V-bucks during in game matches, players would use real currency to purchase V-bucks for cosmetic items like outfits, gliders, emotes and pickaxes. However, this provided an opportunity for scammers to preyom Fortnite players with their “free V-bucks, click here” scams to run rampage online.
Detailed in a blog posting on their official site, Epic Games confirmed that there is no such thing as free V-bucks unless it forms part of a competition from a popular gaming streamer. This is ultimately a big rouse for online thieves to obtain your login details.
The developer has implemented a two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure your account by following these easy instructions:
- Go to epicgames.com and log into your account.
- Open account settings by hovering over your username in the top right corner.
- Select password and security.
- At the bottom, click on the button labeled enable two-factor sign in.

If you’d prefer to use an authentication app, these below-mentioned app have been approved by Epic Games:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Now, whenever you log in to your Epic Games account, you’ll be mailed a unique code which you’ll need to enter before been granted access. The same rules apply if you’re logging in via Xbox Live, however you can set-up a two-factor authentication to your Microsoft accounts. It’s always best to keep your accounts as secure as possible and as a reward, Epic Games will be awarding players with a little incentive for securing your account, as reported by Fortnite Battle Royale News.
So get your ‘boogie down’ on and secure your account and we’ll be seeing you all on the Battle Bus.
