The Xbox Avatars features will soon be available to all sometime this year in a forthcoming system update for Xbox One consoles. However, last week, Microsoft gave exclusive access to Xbox Avatars to select Xbox Insider program rings for beta testing.
Currently available to invite-only Alpha and Skip Ahead Insider rings, this newly designed Xbox Avatars has been rebuilt from the very foundations the previous Avatars were built on, the new Avatars will include new customisation options and diversity and inclusive features which were not previously seen in older Avatars.

To access the Xbox Avatars, which can be found on the Insider Hub tab, here’s how you can access them on your console:
- Open the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox One console.
- Select the Insider content tab.
- Select the Xbox Avatar Editor preview (If this option isn’t present, Avatars aren’t currently available to you).
- Select Join (You can now download the new Xbox Avatars experience).
- Press the Xbox button on your Xbox One controller.
- Select the My games & apps tile.
- Navigate to the Apps tab.
- Select Xbox Avatar Editor, and the new Xbox Avatars app will open on your console.
Once the app has been launched, it will guide players on how to create your very own Avatar through the new system. Xbox has provided tools on the app to finetune facial and bodily features while dressing your Avatar with style and personality. More cosmetic items will be made available upon full rollout.
The availability of the Xbox Avatars is planned to be expanded to other Insider rings soon however Microsoft has yet to confirm these timeframes. Microsoft have yet to confirm which system update will rollout the global launch of the Xbox Avatars for all Xbox One consoles.
