The July system update for Xbox One consoles rolled out on Thursday following the American Independence Day holiday which should get Xbox One owners feeling patriotic. The latest update includes a host of content features and plenty of improvements for Mixer, making navigation and streaming more streamlined.
The FastStart feature, which was announced at E3 last month, starts rolling out to a select number of titles this month. The latest software innovation from the Xbox Innovation team will allow players to start their next gaming journey twice as fast and twice as easy. By identifying specific files needed to begin gameplay, thus downloading these files first as you embark on your gaming journey while downloading the remaining files in the background. Simply search for any FastStart-enabled title, click ‘Download’ and your console will do everything as you sit back and enjoy your next Xbox One title. Only select English language titles within the Xbox Game Pass catalog are enabled with this feature.
Also included in the July update is the function to organise and order your games and apps into various files. This new enhanced feature for ‘Pins’, ‘Groups’ will have players creating files of content from the ‘My Games and Apps’ tab, assign custom names for easy identification and add the files individually to your ‘Home’ tab.
Whether you’re grouping action games, indie games or games from developers and publishers like EA or Ubisoft into its own file, these files will also appear in the ‘My Games and Apps’ and ‘Guide’ tabs for easy access at a flick of the analog stick. These files are also linked to your Xbox Live account which players can sync these files across multiple Xbox One consoles for your friends and family to have access to these files or if you’re upgrading your Xbox One console.

There are some major improvements for the streaming service, Mixer, that should have streamers alike excited about. Firstly, the share controller feature, which was introduced in the April update, which allowed viewers to have full control of the streamer’s gameplay. The new update now adds mouse and keyboard support for PC user with Share Controller Key Bindings, multi-touch support for touch-enabled devices to allows multiple controls to used simultaneously and have added per-channel leaderboard that shows the top contributors to a streamer’s channel during a Share Controller session.
Other Mixer improvements with this update will allow streamers to go full screen with their webcams while broadcasting. Streamers can switch to full screen at any time, however, game audio will be muted to allow streamers to vocally engage with their viewers during a set-up or whether you’re switching between games or during a live broadcast.
Other improvements along for the ride in the July system update includes:
