Publisher Electronic Arts (EA) have most certainly learned from the Star Wars Battlefront II loot box controversy as they revealed there will be no loot boxes for the upcoming FPS, Battlefield V.
According to comment from an EA spokesperson, there will be no randomised loot boxes which was evident during the reval event on Wednesday and at a pre-briefing last week. Battlefield V will completely break away from gameplay progression for cosmetic items as these unlocks will be earned throughout the game and the cosmetics will have no affect on gameplay.
In keeping the community together, Battlefield V will abandon the Premium Pass as both EA and DICE want to have players play the same content and in doing so, keeping the community unified.
The Premium Pass, which was sold alongside Battlefield 1, instead will launch alongside a living service called Tides of War which provides players with new maps, modes and expansion content once its releases without having thr content sold separately from the game, no strings attached.
According to EA, this was a frequently requested from the players and developer DICE as players worried whether their friends have the same maps, modes or other expansion content if they wanted to play together as thr developers are aware now that it won’t stop players from trying the content if they didn’t have to pay for the Premium Pass. This means the community will embark in the journey together and have the Battlefield experience with the same content at the same time.
Battlefield V will launch on October 19 for the Standard Edition while the Deluxe Edition will arrive three days early on October 16. EA Access members will get their hands on Battlefield V an entire week early on October 11 as preorders are now live for Windows 10 PC and Xbox One.
