Get your lab coats ready, pen and paper out and start those training sessions as Fortnite developer, Epic Games made a massive announcement this past Monday.
According to a statement issued on their website:
“Since the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale we’ve watched the passion for community competition grow and can’t wait to empower you to battle with the best.“
Epic Games will be awarding the best competitors of the game by providing $100 million of tournament prize pools towards Fortnite tournaments. This funding will be made available during the 2018/2019 season is an investment of Epic Games supporting the game’s esports arena as the developer states that their approach will “be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game”.
The developer will reveal in the forthcoming weeks the competitve brackets as well as the platforms eligible for play. The investment is most likely the biggest in esports (and video game history) will definitely attract new players to the game and be a sign of motivation for current players to be at their optimal peak performance.
