The brand has be going from strength to strength for over 40 years and while it’s films, TV series and graphic novels have gained massive popularity and success, its video game series has been a Force to be reckoned with. And on this glorious day, we rounded up the best, the fan-favourite and most entertaining Star Wars titles released.

Star Wars Battlefront II (2017)

The most recently released title on this list, Star Wars Battlefront II has endured its fair share of praise and criticism (mostly criticism).

Aside from all the controversy surrounding the game, the game itself is brilliant in many ways. Firstly, EA has done an amazing job with the cinematic scenes, the weapons and the environments are simply gorgeous and detailed.

The 40-player online battles have that “battle royale” feel to itand with three Star Wars narratives present in the game (original, prequel and sequel trilogies) its the ultimate Star Wars experience on modern consoles.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter (1994)

The only Star Wars Windows PC title to feature, there was simply no way not to include this Star Wars title in the mix.

The flight simulator title was the follow-up to Star Wars: X-Wing gave players a golden ticket to sit in the seat of an Imperial pilot to defend the Empire (till your epic death) against the Rebel forces, dswrters or those nasty space pirates with an arsenal of cool weapons, shields and energy boosters. What more could one ask for?

Immersive yet exhilarating, TIE Fighter had the recipe down to a ‘T’ as its gameplay mechanics challenged players without throwing the keyboard to smitherines but a challenge most had accepted nonetheless.

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007)

What happens when you pair one of the biggest cinematic franchises with one of the biggest toy manufacturing brands? Why the coolest video game trilogy ever!

A dream for many, LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga offered the most relaxed and entertaining gaming experiences for all gamers, from the casual to the hardcore fans. Following events from Episode I to Episode VI, players are immersed into a galaxy far, far away, in LEGO bricks, playing one of several iconic Star Wars characters jumping, fighting and solving puzzles, switching between characters while completing various missions.

An absolute gem of a gem, this game cannot be written off as future LEGO crossover titles have stood the test of time to be entertaining for the family and beyond.

Star Wars: Republic Commando (2005)

This gem of a game was released back in 2005 as an Original Xbox exclusive which had some really great foundations to start with.

A good shooter at the time, Republic Commando took some pretty big risks which paid off in the end, making it one of the most unique Star Wars games released. Not featuring your usual Star Wars characters, LucasArts decided to venture into uncharted territory by focusing on a part of the universe that had never been explored before.

While there hasn’t been an FPS game quite as innovative and and fun as Republic Commando, it can still hold its own against FPS titled from that year. Plus, let’s not forget how witty the elite clone soldiers were which the game puts one in charge of this band of merry men. Now, that’s good company at its best…

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)

Developer BioWare was on hand in their first outing into space adventure titles (remember Mass Effect Andromeda).

One of the more popular Star Wars titles to date, Knights of the Old Republic captivated players with its gripping narrative than spanned out in 10 different locations, featuring unique characters the brought to life a well-written storyline.

While the combat was sloppy at times, Knights of the Old Republic was every bit detailed and expansive and had everything one could want and more from a Star Wars game: witty characters, the battle between good and evil and plenty of starships.

Some of your favourite Star Wars titles are available through the Microsoft Store like Republic Commando, LEGO Star Wars: The Conplete Saga and Knights of the Old Republic which are available via backward compatibility.
