The recent console war between Sony and Microsoft just went a couple of degrees hotter with the forthcoming release of the PlayStation exclusive God of War has reignited the first-party exclusives debate between PlayStation and Xbox.
Since the launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft has been struggling to compete with the PlayStation 4 and subsequently, the PS4 Pro with the Xbox One S. However, Microsft has shifted the momentum in their favour with the launch of the Xbox One X with the tagline of being the most powerful video game console ever made.
Xbox Live continues to make amazing strides, the Xbox OS has a plethora of features, apps and services that rivals their competition and the introduction of the Xbox Game Pass has proven to be a massive drawcard among gamers.
When that’s all said and done, the one department that Xbox has been failing dismally where PlayStation is thriving is the number of first-party or in-house exclusive titles. Titles like ReCore and Cuphead which are less flashy titles compared to The Last of Us or Uncharted whereas Sea of Thieves heavily relies on its multiplayer aspect which has seen some great success since launch.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has responded to claims surrounding the brand’s exclusive game offering in which he acknowledges Xbox’s current line-up, pledging to provide gamers with high-quality and diverse experiences they deserve.
While it’s possible to agree with Spencer that reaching Sony or Nintendo’s level could take a while for Microsoft to achieve, some continued to punch holes in the future of Xbox.
Others have responded citing that the so-called fanboys are the reason why the Xbox brand have been getting a bad name. However, the idea of a roadmap has sparked interest amongst many, welcoming the idea in the process.
All eyes will be on Xbox whether they will deliver Spencer’s message on giving gamers the quality and diverse experiences they need when E3 descends to the City of Angels in June.
