#WeekendRoundup: Sam Fisher, Fortnite update and esports galore

This past weekend was crammed with the latest from PAX East in Boston, another stop for gaming en route to E3. But while we’re gearing up for another week filled with new releases and developing stories, here’s what happened this past week.

Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher is coming to Ghost Recon

In a surprise reveal on Saturday, Ubisoft revealed on social media a teaser for the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands Special Operations mission, The Call.

The video, which was uploaded to social media, revealed Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher will be joining the next mission which marks the characters first appearance in five years. This isn’t the first time the game has crossed over with external sources. Last year, Ubisoft teamed up with Universal Stidios for a Predator crossover which saw many either become the hunter or become the hunted.

But exactly what this mission entails, many will have to wait later today for more details to be revealed and what role will Sam Fisher will play.

Epic Games outline upcoming
patch update

Epic Games revealed some snippets for their upcoming update in the Save the World Dev Update this past weekend.

Update v3.5 which is expected to go live this week, Epic Games’ Billy Bramer briefly revealed what players can be expecting from the upcoming update including a new survival map located in a new Biome, new artwork, a new quest line kicks off this week bringing new characters, weapons, gameplay changes and plenty more to be detailed in a blog post this week.

Bramer also discusses weapon perk reroll changes which he emphasises that it’s a hotly debated topic within the commubity. He further discusses that the studio did set an unrealistic time with the completion of weapon peak reroll and how badly the players are requesting the feature but the studio ate actively working on the feature which the players could see it arriving soon but will provide plenty of updates on its development in the coming months.

Rocket League, Gears and Call of Duty continue their eSports dominance

Three major esports titles dominated the weekend, providing plenty of amazing action no matter the preference. Rocket League Championship Series rolled into Week 4 while the Call of Duty but it was the Gears Pro Circuit that not only heated things up in Las Vegas, the Gears Pro Circuit was trending on social media.

The Gears Pro Circuit rolled out in Sin City which saw the top Gears teams battle it out for top honours. Friday saw all the participating teams compete for a place in the Pool Play groups. 16 teams then duked it out on Saturday to make their mark on the Gears Pro Circuit and inching closer to the Championship Winners bracket while the losing teams will fight to keep their dream alive in the Championship Losers bracket.

Highlights from the Pro Circuit saw Aspire Gaming and Abtruse eSports run rampage in the open bracket playoffs but failed miserably in the Pool Play group stage. However Optic Gaming and Echo Fox showed their dominance with a three match victory and advancing to the Championship Winners bracket with Optic receiving the biggest shock defeat to Fable in the first round of the Championship Winners bracket while Echo Fox losing to Ghost Gaming in the Quarterfinals.

Ghost Gaming were tested last night in their bigger matchup as they took on Fable with in the Grand Finals, beating them in great style and finesse, taking home the trophy plus $80 000.
