Overwatch’s Uprising event rises once again for Retribution

Blizzard is digging deep once again into the game’s archives for this year’s event

The Uprising is near as Overwatch players will be welcoming the next Uprising event in a few days time. In a Developer Update video, Blizzard made the decision to rename the event to Overwatch Archives as it directly emphasises the main focus on the organisation’s previous missions. But if the new name doesn’t lead much, this year’s event us revealed to be Overwatch Archives: Retribution.

The limited period event, which highlights the backstory of the Overwatch universe, had some great success when it was introduced. Now Blizzard will be granting player another opportunity to replay Tracer’s mission or experience for the first time the King’s Row mission but this time either in Story Mode or All Heroes Mode with three other heroes available aside from Tracer: Mercy, Reinhardt and Torbjorn.

Uprising was the game’s first PvE game mode following the game’s Halloween event, Junkerstein. Uprising delved into the game’s cover character, Tracer’s first mission against a rogue organisation who’s mission was to break down peace talks between the Omnics and humans. It appears from the trailer that we could be going back a year prior to these events as the trailer suggests that this year’s mission could be involving Blackwatch. And if that doesn’t excite you, Blizzard teased in the latest trailer that appears players will be getting more than what was initially expected.

But it seems like the folks at Blizzatd have been hinting at the event and the eventual renaming since last year, which game director explained in the video.

“Some of you who paid really close attention last year to the loot box, you’ll notice that it used to say ‘Archives’ on that loot box.

“The idea there is that there are all of these cool past moments in Overwatch history. By going into the archives, we can relive those, and Uprising was just one of those events.”

The event aside, this will indeed spark more interest to the event as Kaplan revealed that plenty of content, which will only be revealed at a later stage, will have ties to the event. The loot boxes from this year’s event will contain content from the previous Uprising event alongside new content from this year’s event.

Blizzard will be revealing more details into the upcoming event during stage three of the Overwatch League today before the event goes live next week.
