The fifth annual South by Southwest (SXSW) Gaming Awards, the focal point of everything gaming and geek culture, took Texas (and social media) by storm this past weekend during the SXSW Conference.
The annual awards saw over 500 000 gamers vote for their favourite gaming tite in 20 different categories ranging from visual effects, sound effects, narrative, music and more.
So, who were the big winners?
Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Bluehole’s PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) and StudioMDHR’s Cuphead accepted top honours at this year’s SXSW Gaming Awards as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and PUBG each taking home three awards.
PUBG took home “Trending Game of the Year”, “Award for Excellence in Multiplayer” and “eSports Game of the Year” while Cuphead walked away with “Excellence in Animation” and “Excellence in Art” awards.
Other notable winners include indie adventure game, What Remains of Edith Finch winning the narrative award, the controversial game of 2017, Star Wars Battlefront II winning the award in convergence and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard named the top title in VR with “VR Game of the Year”.
