The internet and social media are freaking over this recent announcement
Ubisoft stunned everyone on Thursday when the studio announced that the sequel to the 2016 online action title, Tom Clancy’s The Division is currently in production. The studio revealed that the game’s first official appearance will be at this year’s E3.
According to Massive Entertainment’s Creative Director, Julian Gerighty, the developers are extremely excited to be introducing the next chapter of The Division and what fans and players alike can expect in the coming months.
Probably the biggest bit of information to point out is that the developers will be using an updated Snowdrop engine for The Division 2. The engine, which first appeared at E3 2013 with The Division, has been used by three other Ubisoft titles, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and South Park: The Fractured but Whole. Gerighty stated that the updated Snowdrop engine will “enables us to realize our ambitions for the sequel, but more importantly, we’re also taking everything we learned over the past two years and applying it towards the sequel to make sure we get it right”.
Other details mapped out for the studio in The Division Roadmap includes the rollout of Year 2 celebrations for The Division with Global Events, two new Legendary modes, two more updates and Xbox One X enhancements.
Gerighty further added that with the continuous support from the Division community, the developers will be adding a new achievement for The Division as a thank you to the players and community for the support.
“Part of that means recognizing your commitment to The Division. With that in mind, we’re adding a new type of achievement called “Shields” to the game. Earning them will unlock special rewards in The Division 2 when it launches.”
We’re excited to see what Ubisoft has planned for The Division 2 as developments unfold over the next few months leading up to the biggest gaming showcase, E3 in June.
