2018 according to the Chinese will be the Year of the Dog and the folks at Blizzard are saving the date for the upcoming seasonal event, the Lunar New Year.
The seasonal event was announced on Friday via social media with a fantastic teaser clip and the launch date for the event.
Game director Jeff Kaplan, confirmed the event in the first Developer Update that this year’s theme is the Year of the Dog. Overwatch hosted the Lunar New Year event, Year of the Rooster last year with the addition of exclusive themed skins for the game and this year should be no exception.
Kaplan briefly spoke about what players can expect in the upcoming event with more details to follow. If last year’s Lunar New Year event was any indication of how incredible the event was, this year should be no exception.
“…but I think there’s some pretty significant content that players are going to be happy with and some other stuff that we’ve been listening to you; give us feedback on that were gonna make changes on during the Year of the Dog event.”
Kaplan also revealed that the studio are also working on the lore-based event, Uprising. The studio are working on evolving the event giving players, who haven’t participated in last year’s event, another opportunity to experience it.
The Lunar New Year event will arrive on the back of the cosmetic update launched last week which finally introduced the Blizzard World map plus brand new emotes, player icons, and skins for all Overwatch players for free.
Overwatch’s Lunar event, the Year of the Dog, will arrive on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on February 8.
