“Spider”: What we need to know about Xbox’s unreleased Elite Controller

Every Xbox One owner (myself included) can somewhat agree that Xbox peripherals don’t easily come cheap whether it’s the top of the line headsets, charge and play kits or even the Elite controllers.

But there have been some murmurs doing rounds on chat forums and social media platforms that Microsoft could possibly be working on the next Elite controller.

The Elite controllers are arguably the preferred choice for gamers and for gamers. It’s the controller of choice as it meets the needs of what a controller should possess.

Before Windows Central confirmed these rumours, various leaks including Chinese site, Baidu, have suggested what the new Elite controller would look like which appears to have been built from previous versions which have made several improvements and be advancements. These changes include Bluetooth connectivity to wirelessly connect to your PC and a USB-C connection for Mac users and a built-in battery just to mention.

Later developments emerged that the first leaked image of the new controller appears to be accurate according to a Redditor which also includes new grips, profile switch system, a three-level hair trigger locks and adjustable stick tension.

However, a recent article from Windows Central officially confirmed that Microsoft is indeed working on the new Elite controller dubbed “Spider”. According to the article from The Verge, a source has further confirmed this rumour/leak as Microsoft has applied for the controller patent in December.

We’re still hoping that the tech giant will officially confirm these rumours/leaks but we’re assuming that Microsoft is waiting for a massive event (our money’s on E3 in June) to officially announce or launch the new Elite controller. So, it could be a while until Microsoft makes the jump.
