Bethesda calls on Lynda Carter, gamers to #SavePlayer1

This past Thursday, Bethesda threw down a challenge, a mission statement if you will in a television spot during the Game Awards 2017.

#SavePlayer1 – A detailed blog post by Associate Director Gary Steinman on Bethesda’s website revealed the studio’s intended reasons behind the hashtag (which has thus gone viral) and why single-player games have been on the decline.

Once upon a time, these solitary experiences dominated the gaming landscape. But in recent years, with multiplayer on the rise, single-player games have become fewer in number. Meanwhile, the community has been clamoring for more single-player games, and the media has penned a panoply of pieces bemoaning the loss of single-player experiences.

The developer took advantage of the Game Awards to share their vision to rescue single-player games from the obscurity of multiplayer modes/games in a video clip starring the original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter.

Steinman also revealed that the studio is a big contributor in supporting the next generation of game developers as they recently donated $100 000 to the ESA Foundation which provides funding for future developers.

The hashtag got a massive outpour on social media, with many applauding the studio for its efforts to make single-player games equally important as many shared their experiences playing single-player games. The developer stated that they’ll share these stories on their social media platforms.

As the #SavePlayer1 trend continues to pick up momentum on social media, what has been your best/memorable single-player experience? Let us know in the comments section below or follow Xbox Players SA on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #SavePlayer1.
