Respawn Entertainment goes under the hammer as EA nabs the ‘Titanfall’ dev

Considered one of the biggest news developments of last week (late last week, I may add) is the massive purchase of Respawn Entertainment by Electronic Arts (EA).

This deal was announced by EA last week, which could see them acquire the studio for a cool $315 million plus a $140 million bonus. This is great news for fans of Titanfall as this deal can be a great benefit as EA and Respawn will be able collaborate together in terms of production and release of future titles.

According to a statement from EA CEO Andrew Wilson, hehad nothing but praise for the studio and anticipates working together with them.

“We’ve seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset.

“Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world. Together, we’ve brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more amazing things in the future.”

Both studios have also announced a title within the Titanfall franchise is in development and surprisingly enough, a Star Wars title which Respawn CEO Vince Zampella stated is “coming along fantastic”.

This development all while EA had to shut down Visceral Studios a while back considering that Visceral Studios was developing the next Star Wars game. According to Zampella, this shouldn’t alarm or raise any causes for concern as the Visceral closure and Respawn purchase are unrelated.

Should there really be a cause for concern?
