Watch out, PUBG! Fortnite lands 20 million players across all game modes

Fortnite has been in constant battle in the battle royale arena with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) for while since it launched its battle royale mode. And it may be a while until the release of PUBG on Xbox One, Epic Games capitalise on the “window of opportunity” as it announced a major milestone for the studio and its game.

The developer recently took to social media to announce that due to the success of Fortnite’s battle royale mode, the game has surpassed 20 million players across all game modes since its launch.

The battle royale genre rose to prominece, thanks to H1Z1: King of the Kill last year but the genre only took off when PUBG arrived on the scene this year. Ironically, PUBG creator, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene oversaw both titles as the experience and knowledge helped him become the driving force behind PUBG and its successes.

However, let’s not forget that when Fortnite launched its battle royale mode in September, it had over one million players logged in on day one. And with the recently released patch notes which sees new daily challenges and voice chat introduced, increased rendering performance and its matchaking system finally getting some stability (and of course the game is free to play), Fortnite will see a steady increase of players right up until PUBG launches on December 12.
