Xbox revealed yesterday its first batch of original Xbox titles available to play on Xbox One consoles via backward compatibility.
Announced back at E3 this year, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that players will get the opportunity to play three generations of Xbox titles on one system by adding original Xbox titles to its growing list of backward compatible titles. Crimson Skies was one of few to be mentioned during Xbox’s conference at E3, until yesterday, Xbox have included some surprising additions.
The first batch of original Xbox titles include:
- Black
- BloodRayne 2
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Dead to Rights
- Fuzion Frenzy
- Grabbed by the Ghoulies
- The King of Fighters Neowave
- Ninja Gaiden Black
- Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
- Psychonauts
- Red Faction II
- Sid Meier’s Pirates!
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
According to Phil Stillwell, who heads up Xbox’s Backward Compatibility program, in a statement released on Monday:
“Starting tomorrow (October 24), for the first time, you’ll be able to play three generations of games on one console – a curated list of Original Xbox classics like Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and more will be available across the entire Xbox One family of devices.”
The Backward Compatibility feature has been an integral part of Xbox as it allows talented artists to preserve and enhanced some of the best-selling, iconic and entertaining titles released on the Xbox platform. Playing these titles on your Xbox One will boost the graphics to 1080p resolution, offline multiplayer link plays and faster load times as certain titles will be offered widescreen support, just to mention.
Recently, Xbox posted a side-by-side graphics comparison video on their YouTube channel for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic running on the original Xbox system and the Xbox One S.
These games won’t be available through the Xbox Store just yet (Knights of the Old Republic is R99 at the Xbox Store), so it’s best if you do own a disc copy of the above-mentioned titles. More titles will be added to the list in due time as legal and licensing issues play a key factor into getting titles curated for Xbox One.
The next curated list of Original Xbox titles is expected to drop in Spring 2018.
