New Gears of War 4 update introduces Halloween-themed content, maps, Xbox One X support

A new update from developer The Coalition for the action shooter Gears of War 4, will give you another reason to be playing GOW 4 this month.

Arriving today (October 23), the birthday celebrations continue for developer The Coalition, the update will include support for the incoming Xbox One X enhancements. This support will be further detailed on the official game site in the weeks leading up to the console’s launch.

Also arriving in this update are two brand new maps — Fuel Depot and Lift Apex. The Fuel Depot map, a large warehouse location, makes its return as it was first seen on Gears of War and Gears 2. This epic sniper clash will provide players with plenty of blindspots and coverage while providing the opportunity for that perfect headshot.

The Lift Apex map, inspired by an earlier Gears map, will provide players with the ultimate tactical experience set in an Imulsion Extraction Facility right in the middle of the Serano ocean.

Season Pass holders can play these maps from October 23rd as it will be available for everyone on October 30th.

If you don’t take our word for it, check out the video clip below to see how these maps will play out.

This Gears of War 4 update requires the latest Xbox One update (yes, the Fall Update that we have mentioned this month) and it will make some optimisations to the internal hard drive for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs for this update. Although the update will be quite the sizable download, it will have little effect on the overall size of the Gears file.

The Coalition will also launch a Halloween-themed event which will include new characters, weapon skins, and “spooky-themed events. Visit Gears of War’s official site or on Twitter @GearsofWar for the latest updates and news.
