Fortnite dev claims seven million players in its first week

The Battle Bus continues to fly as Fortnite developer revealed that its battle royale mode helped the game reach seven million players in its first week.

The game mode, which drew inspiration from other battle royale games like H1Z1: King of the Kill and the widely popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), was introduced to players on September 26 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

This has certainly heated up the competition among the above-mentioned titles all in early access and PUBG anticipating a full release launch within six months. However, that was an unrealistic goal set by Bluehole Studios as the developer had to delay its full release to sometime in 2018 as it will receive its platform release on the Xbox One.

But despite this raging success, it’s quite tricky to determine whether Epic Games’ claim is verified as its games aren’t sold on Steam’s marketplace. For third-party sites like SteamSpy, which can verify Epic’s claim much like it did when PUBG reached over 13 million players. However, this took the entire summer for PUBG to reach this milestone, while Fortnite managed to reach seven million players in a week.

Will Fortnite break PUBG and Steam’s record of the most concurrent players? Or will PUBG hold on to its record for a while longer? Let us know in the comments section below or follow Xbox Players SA on Facebook and Twitter.
