Gearbox puts Battleborn to sleep, keep servers online for players

No more updates for the online shooter after its Fall update

More than 16 months after its launch, Gearbox Software announced that the upcoming Fall update for the online shooter game, Battleborn, will be the final update. The game is currently undergoing a “maintenance mode” which will still allow its servers to be fully operational for players wanting to play but it won’t release any new content.

According to a post on Gearbox’s site, game director Randy Varnell revealed how sad he is about leaving the game, but remained optimistic as the Gearbox team are currently working on a new project.

“If you’ve been paying attention to recent news from the Gearbox Panel at PAX West, you’ll have heard that many folks at Gearbox are working on a highly anticipated project. Although I’m sad my time on Battlebornis coming to a close, I’m happy to announce that I will play a significant role on this highly anticipated but unannounced game, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing some from me again in the future regarding Gearbox games.”

He continued to thank fans “for giving Battleborn a chance” as Varnell stated, “step back and enjoy the game we created”.

Gearbox launched a free trial for Battleborn back in June where, those new to the game, can experience the hero-shooter as the game rotates its hero roster on a weekly basis. The free trial is available at the Xbox and Steam Store.
