Fortnite ‘corrected’ crossplay feature, Phil Spencer comments on situation

Cross-platform play has been on the lips and fingertips of everyone over the past few months with Xbox allowing Windows 10 PC and Xbox One owners to play with and alongside each other and the Xbox Play Anywhere feature that lets both PC and Xbox One owners play certain titles on either platform.Nintendo also joined the conversation by agreeing to partner up with Microsoft to enable crossplay on titles like Minecraft and Rocket League as Nintendo of America Communications Director communications director Charlie Scibetta

Nintendo also joined the conversation by agreeing to partner up with Microsoft to enable crossplay on titles like Minecraft and Rocket League as Nintendo of America communications director Charlie Scibetta stated that this is what’s best for players as there’s not many downsides to it.

“I’m really happy just as a gamer, let alone working for the company, that that’s going to be possible, that cross platform play. We’re trying to be more flexible as a company.”

But Sony doesn’t think so, in fact, we all know that crossplay between Xbox One and PS4, from a technical standpoint, can work. And it seemed that it may have “accidentally” happened when it was recently discovered that Xbox One and PS4 players were playing alongside each other on Epic Games’ sandbox survival game, Fortnite.

This was discovered by a Reddit user, PRE_-CISION-_ after he saw an Xbox Gamertag in his lobby on his PS4. His thread drew plenty of attention with another user sharing images that the Gamertags were on Xbox One and not PC or PS4 and that the consoles were together connecting to the game. A video of the Twitch livestream was provided of the entire match to further prove that the crossplay did happen.

It has been reported that the crossplay feature was enabled for Fortnite over the weekend which has now been disabled and stated it was an error on their behalf.

According to a Fortnite representative, “We had a configuration issue and it has now been corrected.”

So, ironically, someone asked Xbox boss Phil Spencer on Twitter on his thoughts about the Fortnite situation, which he offered sound advice toward Epic Games.

Do you think Epic should have left the feature on? Does this provide much-needed information that cross-play between PlayStation and Xbox One can happen? Let us know in the comments section below or follow Xbox Players SA on Facebook and Twitter.
