Game Releases for Xbox One & Windows PC: September 2017

September is all about the expansions, sequels and gaming franchises. This month also marks the month where the Xbox Game Pass becomes available in South Africa, starting September 1 (today). There’s absolutely no other reason not join other than have access to over 100 Xbox titles at a flat rate per month and if you have EA Access account and you have a Gold Live membership, more reasons to be playing this month.

Here’s a preview of September releases, platforms and its release date:

Destiny 2 (Xbox One, Windows PC)

On the back of a successfully outing at gamescom, the month’s most anticipated release, Destiny 2 will kick off the month on a high. The sequel to Bungie’s first person shooter, the Guardians have been stripped of their power and travel to worlds that have yet to be explored to unite the heroes and defeat the Red Legion.

Bungie has been working on the Destiny Companion app to coincide with the game’s launch while details for the game’s DLCs have been revealed with the first, Curse of Osiris, arriving in December.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2018 (Xbox One, Windows PC)

How ironic that the only football games (PES 2018 and FIFA 18) are released in the same month, weeks apart?

Well, first up is Konami’s sporting title, PES 2018, which the biggest news from the game is the exclusive partnership with legendary footballer, David Beckham. The game which won “Best Sporting Video Game” at gamescom this year, Konami has fine tuned the gameplay to stay true to the sport’s authenticity, enhanced the game’s visuals including players and locations and a better online co-op mode.

Become the footballing legend you’re meant to be on September 12.

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen (Xbox One, Windows PC)

One of a few DLCs released this month includes XCOM 2: War of the Chosen. From Firaxis and 2K Games, this latest expansion has been rated the best XCOM expansion thus far.

Included in the expansion are new soldier classes, enemies, mechanics and systems all interwoven in a Shakespearean-themed narrative. As you engage in tactical battle with the ADVENT, learn to use the game’s new feature, the “Bond” system which allows you to pair up with fellow soldiers whilst developing special attributes for the pair when deployed.

Resist the Advent as XCOM 2: War of the Chosen deploys September 12.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (Xbox One, Windows PC)

Another DLC drops this month from Arkane Studios, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider.

Following the events from Dishonored 2, Billie Lurk reunites with her mentor, Daud as they explore the underworld of Karnaca to kill The Outsider (the same dude from the first two games who gave powers to Emily and Corvo). Made Enemy Number One, The Outsider is also the face of the destruction of the city and it won’t be long before the city plunges into more destruction when Billie starts hunting him down.

The game has been stated to be more of a standalone story, rather than a DLC, as the game provides plenty of stealth takedowns, newly enhanced gameplay mechanics and an enticing narrative, one cannot pass up the chance to play Death of the Outsider.

Restore peace to Karnaca in Dishonored: Death of the Outsider on September 14.

Divinity: Original Sin II (Windows PC)

Larian Studios’ isometric RPG, Divinity: Original Sin 2 shows off a fantastic enhanced gameplay and a new playable race, heck yeah!

Set centuries after the first Original Sin, players return to Rivellon where religious persecution is the order of the day. Bishop Alexandar was declared war upon the Sourcerers as those possessing Source powers, are hunted down and purged of their powers. travel across the realm, through picturesque cities and lost temples to defeat the most powerful Sourcerer and Bishop Alexandar in an epic battle o a lifetime.

Save yourself to save the world in Divinity: Original Sin 2 on September 14.

NHL 18 (Xbox One)

Not much of a popular game amongst South African gamers, the EA Sports title takes the fight to the frozen court in NHL (National Hockey League) 18.

With new attack and defensive dekes (a fake in hockey terms) which include linking moves for the moment-to-moment decision making, make the ice your playground with new features and game modes including the Training Camp and the 3v3 EASHL mode.

Remain as cool as ice as NHL 18 drops September 15.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite (Xbox One, Windows PC)

In one of the most epic fighting games, merging two of the biggest universes for one game, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite definitely delivers on the all the action, humour and star-studded roster.

Ultron and Sigma forged an alliance thus gaining possession of two Infinite Stones which fused the Marvel and Capcom universes into one dimension. With the main goal to purge the world from all human life, it is up to the heroes and villains from these universes to compete in tag team battle and save the world from Ultron Sigma (the merged alliance).

Defend the universe in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on September 19.

Project CARS 2 (Xbox One, Windows PC)

Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai Namco return to the race track in the sequel of the motorsport racing simulator, Project CARS 2.

With 182 cars from 38 car manufacturers and having the largest track roster with 121 layouts, Project CARS 2 aims to deliver the “Ultimate Driving Journey”. A new engine is introduced for the game, LiveTrack 3.0, which brings realistic weather conditions on race day. An online mode, with the focus on esports, includes an online ranking system, championships and better matchmaking.

Find your soul on the race track in Project CARS 2 on September 22.

Total War: WARHAMMER 2 (Windows PC)

Set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe, the sequel to the award-winning game, Total War: WARHAMMER takes players across four continents within the fictional universe.

As one of eight Lords from either four races, stabilise or disrupt The Great Vortex by performing a series of rituals as you hinder the progression of other races. Together with a new unique playstyle of gameplay mechanics, narrative, war strategies, armies, magic, monsters, characters and abilities, the epic war on the Great Vortex culminates into the ultimate Total War experience.

Save or destroy the Great Vortex in Warhammer 2 on September 28.

FIFA 18 (Xbox One, Windows PC)

The second football game, FIFA 18, will round off the month as preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup next year has commenced.

Featuring cover star, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo, the game shows off the Frostbite engine (Battlefield, Mass Effect), the lines between virtual and the real worlds have been blurred to bring your favourite footballing stars and legends, stadiums and teams and continental tournaments into the world’s most beautiful game.

Sorry Becks, but we’re bending it like Ronaldo in FIFA 18 on September 29.
