Xbox announced it will stop sales of the original Xbox One console in the US and UK as they are looking toward the launch of the Xbox One X on November 7.
There are, however, exceptions as the refurbished 500GB consoles are available in the US while it has been listed as “sold out” on Xbox UK’s landing page. Since the launch four years ago, the software giant had struggled in the early days to sell the console as it was priced more than $100 (around R1300) more than Sony’s PlayStation 4 but eventually closed the gap by removing the Kinect sensor from bundles.
Since launch day, Xbox has turned their focus toward software features, games and better consoles.
Last year, Xbox launched the Xbox One S, a slimmed down variation of the Xbox One console and had stopped production on the Xbox 360 console. Xbox received overall praises for the console’s 4K support and accessibility to apps like HBO, Amazon and Netflix.
Now, the original Xbox One console has been dealt the same fate.
Staying with Xbox news, Microsoft announced that Xbox has received an overwhelming response to the Xbox One X that it became “the fastest selling Xbox pre-order“.
Microsoft thanked its fans in a statement on Xbox Wire.
“Within just a few days, we saw record-setting sell-out times and are currently sold out in many countries around the world.
“You, our biggest fans, have pre-ordered more Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition consoles in the first five days than any Xbox ever.”
The Xbox One X pre-order still hasn’t gone live in South Africa due to the clearance certification not being approved yet for the Xbox One X in the country. Until this has been approved, no release date or pricing can be confirmed nor will pre-orders will be made live for local Xbox fans.
According to Microsoft South Africa’s Consumer Director Colin Baumgart, “Ensuring that Xbox One X gets into the South African market as close to global release as possible is our main priority.”
The pre-order for the standard Xbox One X will go live next month.
