Latest update will make you feel at ‘Home’: August 2017

It’s quite rare that I would do an article on a Tuesday but this had a sense of urgency as the next Xbox Update has been made available to Xbox Insiders members only.

According to Corporate VP of Platform Engineering Mike Ybarra, this forthcoming update will “make the Xbox game experience more fun” with a personal touch. With feedback from the Xbox community, the latest updates will bring more variety and make the gaming experience more action-packed.

The latest changes will affect the Home, Guide and Community tabs together with more Avatars, Game Hub and Profile updates expected to drop this Fall. Players will have the freedom of customising their Home which includes the “look, feel and movement” of the dashboard with an emphasis on the speed and customisation all thanks to the new design system, Microsoft Fluent Design.

Switching between tabs has also been improved with this latest update as players can easily move between tabs within the guide as you can join a Party, start a Mixer broadcast or move content to your Home without any interruptions. The new Guide layout will give players access to their favourite items and apps making them accessible without having to go on a witch hunt.

A new layout will roll out for the Community tab as staying connected with friends and family has been improved. The Activity Feed will accompany more content, displayed in a fully immersive and full-screen view. You can now keep up-to-date with the comments window, keep tabs on the latest games and plenty more improvements to Clubs all to come over the next few months.

Windows 10 devices are expected to see some updates arriving which includes the Game Bar and Gaming Settings (which I saw in the previous Xbox update for my Windows 10 laptop). With this update, Windows 10 device owners can easily enable or disable the Game Mode option and a Mixer audio broadcasting allows players to set the option of game-only or wide audio broadcast. An Xbox Live Network Troubleshooting option will be made available.

As mentioned earlier, this update is available now for Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Ring as this update will arrive for all Xbox One consoles soon.
