In a move that could set precedence, Electronic Arts (EA) announced last Thursday NBA Live 18 will feature for the first time teams from the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) ahead of the game’s official release in December.
Following in the footsteps of FIFA 16 who included women’s football teams, NBA Live senior producer Mike Mahar stated that all 12 WNBA teams will be made available from the game’s Play Now menu only for online and offline play as the league’s All-Star team will be made available.
Despite the WNBA having existed for over 20 years, there has been little to no inclusion in previous NBA titles except for EA’s NBA Street who featured Sue Bird and Lisa Leslie, this will be the first time that all WNBA teams will be playable on an NBA title. However, the WNBA teams won’t be available for its PC release, it will be heading to PS4 and Xbox One releases.
The free NBA Live 18 demo will be available on August 11 but it won’t feature the WNBA content.
