EGE 2017: First day off to a rocker start

The first day of the Electronic and Gaming Expo 2017 kicked off without a glitch (alright, maybe one or two) but it was a slow yet robust start to an exciting weekend filled with gaming, electronics and geek culture.

I spend a few minutes on the exhibitors’ floor, interacting with people and having a look at merchandise on offer from figurines, bags, clothing, jewellery and board games just to mention. Pwned Gaming, Readers Den and techfixplay are among my favourite booths to visit as I bagged a few friends to take home with me (I had to take Totoro or he won’t be there tomorrow).

Ster Kinekor has a huge presence with the PlayStation booth (shhh…) but I struggled to find an Xbox console in sight…until I spotted a One S at the Empire Gaming booth. The Republic of Gamers and ACGL had some incredible showcases today and a trip to the VR booth is a must for all to experience.

Zombiegamer and VS Gaming dominates most of the crowds on the first day with the Injustice 2 King of the Hill tournament and the Dota2 Master Championship taking place simultaneously. It’s absolutely bonkers but the right kind. Republic of Gamers (ROG) and Tenebris Lab brought their VR experience to their respective booths this year which is definitely something I look forward to.

Unfortunately, the cosplayers had a small showing today, which really made me sad but I was impressed with the costumes that were on show today. Maybe a stronger showing tomorrow.

While the scent of churros and burgers linger in the air, I reflect on the day’s events and for my first EGE, I was definitely in ultimate geek heaven. Can’t wait to do this all over again tomorrow. But we have recapped the day’s festivities in a sweet video from our YouTube channel which you can view below:

So, who’s joining me tomorrow at EGE 2017? What do you expect to see at this year’s event on day two? Let us know in the comments section below or on Facebook and Twitter.
