Back in 2013, Microsoft announced that they are planning to develop a television series based on the Halo video game series and not much about the show has been heard.
Nearly four years after the announcement, Microsoft reiterated that the TV series is still in development as the company partnered up with US television network, Showtime (Ray Donovan, Twin Peaks, Billions) and legendary director Steven Spielberg.
In an interview with a gaming site, the tech giant stated that 343 Industries are overlooking the project to ensure that the end product meets the fans’ expectations. And despite the many pitfalls Microsoft faced over the years from mass layoffs to cancelling famed titles including Fable Legends and Scalebound and the poor success of Halo: Nightfall (a digital short that accompanied Halo: The Master Chief Collection), it seemed that the project would be scrapped.
Instead, the fire is burning strong as Microsoft issued a statement regarding the Halo TV project.
“Progress on the Halo Television Series continues. We want to ensure we’re doing this the right way together with a team of creative partners (Steven Spielberg and Showtime) that can help us build the best Halo series that fans expect and deserve. We have no further details to share at this time.”
While Microsoft won’t be revealing any details into the plot or location of the TV series, they have certainly confirmed that the project does still exist (and that it’s actively in production) but most importantly that Spielberg and Showtime are still working with Microsoft and 343 Industries.
We can all agree that after all, they do want the show to be the best it can be
