There’s Twitch, Valve, Steam and Xbox’s Mixer have embraced live video gaming content, the online multiplayer PlayerUnknown’s Battleground (PUBG) have opted out of Twitch and heading to Facebook as their official platform for all game livestreams.
Announced yesterday, the studio behind PUBG, Bluehole Studio, revealed that it will host live gaming content from PU Battlegrounds’ official Facebook account four times a month, moving all official content over to Facebook. Despite this announcement, PUBG content will still be visible on platforms like Twitch through its community streamers
The aim for Bluehole and PUBG is to showcase the many elements of PUBG as Bluehole hopes to bring independent creators on board to host these livestreams and bringing in a wider, more diverse audience. Although platforms like Twitch and Steam have a dedicated audience for gaming content and streaming, Facebook has the potential of being a huge player in gaming livestreams as many developers and publishers know that content won’t be crowded on Facebook compared to Twitch and Steam.
Facebook’s game partnership head Leo Olebe expressed his excitement over the partnership stated that “we’re excited to see some of the best PUBG creators bring exclusive content to Facebook to help fuel its growing community on the platform“.
The first PUBG Facebook Live stream commenced on Monday.
