Everyone loves a really good video game, especially if developers decided on remastering the game for new-gen consoles like the Xbox One (and now One X). In light of Blizzard remastering one of their iconic titles, the space strategy StarCraft, here’s a look at eight titles that were remastered for Xbox One (they were also remastered for PS4).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
A decade after its release and CoD: Modern Warfare is still considered one of the franchise’s popular titles. In the remastered version of Modern Warfare, Activision has brought back its campaign mode which still gets played and bringing a smile to our faces and its multiplayer mode brings much-needed relief, unlike Infinite Warfare’s multiplayer antics.
Grand Theft Auto V
You might be second-guessing but when Rockstar brought GTA V to new-gen consoles, it was simply even better and even five years since its release, it’s still the best-selling game worldwide.
With the inclusion of over 100 songs added to the radio stations, the graphics pumped up and violence more visceral like a Tarantino film, GTA V remains a classic and a regular feature in many game collections.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection
Probably one of the first titles I’ve bought, 343 Industries remastered four iconic Halo titles, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 4 for the bundled compilation Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
With enhanced graphics, DLCs and more than 100 multiplayer maps, Xbox struck gold with Halo: MCC especially since it was released before Halo 5: Guardians which didn’t do that well with diehard Halo fans. Hopefully, Halo 6 will be the step up from Guardians…hopefully.
BioShock: The Collection
As legendary as Assassin’s Creed, Halo and the below mentioned, Metro, BioShock is one of those rare titles that still entices you even when its done and dusted.
From Blind Squirrel and 2K Games, BioShock: The Collection remasters its two titles in the series. Revisit Rapture as Jack (BioShock) and Subject Delta (BioShock 2) as you seek the secrets of the mystical utopia while fighting off splicers. It also comes with a BioShock: Infinite port for consoles, there’s nothing on the market that can stand up to the brilliance of BioShock.
Metro Redux
Another remastered classic in my collection is the post-apocalyptic FPS, Metro Redux. Comprising of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, the series is based on the novel Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky who also wrote the narrative for Last Light, follows Artyom as he navigates his way through Moscow’s metro system while encountering the Dark One throughout his missions.
Both titles received positive reviews from critics and with Metro: Exodus set for a 2018 release, we could expect more fierce encounters with creatures that call the Russian wasteland their home.
Resident Evil
Over last few years, Capcom has had the tedious job of re-releasing and remaking Resident Evil, trying to find the right combination of zombies, gore and a harrowing storyline, which their finally succeeded in Resident Evil: Biohazard. But when the decision came to remaster the 1996 release of Resident Evil with 16:9 widescreen view, 1080p graphics and 60fps, this remake is even better than the original suited for a more modern gameplay.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
So, we’ve established just how ridiculously awesome The Elder Scrolls franchise really is. But none can compare to the fifth installment of the franchise, Skyrim. The remastered version of ESO V: Skyrim really showed off in many ways from the graphics, bringing more depth and detail in the art and effects including shading and making mods available for consoles, as grandiose as this game is, it lives up to the hype and critical claim six years later.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Purely focusing on the origins of Lady Lara Croft, Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix have found their lucky charm when they rebooted the franchise with Tomb Raider. Released in 2013, the inexperienced Lara must learn to survive on a remote island, Yamatai as she’s been pursued by a fanatic cult whilst saving her friends from their grips. As the first Tomb Raider title that includes a multiplayer mode and a DLC as apart of the Definitive Edition, the game has sold 8.5 million copies since its release and the subsequent sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015, Lara has never looked this fantastic and visceral.
