Electronic Arts kicked off this year’s E3 Expo in Los Angeles and indeed, there were a few surprises from the American publisher.
Two new games were announced to open their conference, Hazelight’s co-op adventure game A Way Out and the BioWare IP Anthem.
A Way Out follows the story of two men, unfamiliar with each other, to break out of prison for life outside prison walls. The game intended as a co-op adventure to play on the couch with friends where the outcome will differ for each character. The game is set for a 2018 release on Xbox One.
We were then treated to the first look of BioWare’s new IP, Anthem.
This action space adventure was developed under the codename “Dylan”, has been in the works for years while the studio worked on the Mass Effect series. Although not much is revealed about the game, BioWare has stated that it initially planned a release for the end of the fiscal year (FY17/18) but has now been pushed back as late 2019.
But probably the game of the hour, fans was treated to the first playthrough of the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II.
The game, which is now powered by Frostbite Engine, will merge the original trilogy with the prequels and the new era all in one immersive action shooter. The Star Wars gaming experience range from multiplayer mode in the three eras to an emotionally gripping single player campaign and having access to iconic Star Wars figures including Darth Maul.
Accompanying Battlefront II was the announcement of Grand Admiral Thrawn being introduced for the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Acquired through the Legendary events, Thrawn can gift his Empire allies with special abilities and have the power to manipulate his turn meters, Thrawn is best described as an “artist of war”.
Other titles shown off includes FIFA 18 which the publisher showed exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of cover star Cristiano Ronaldo using the Real Player Motion Technology. Madden 18 will now include the first ever story campaign mode, Longshot, that follows a lost quarterback reembarking his journey back to the league.
We already know that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will grace the cover of NFL Madden 18 G.O.A.T. Edition but EA announced that Madden 18 will now include the first ever story campaign mode, Longshot, which documents the journey of Devin Wade, who lost his way in the NFL is reembarking his journey back to the league in the hopes of getting drafted.
