In what has taken only three days to get a sense of direction that Bandai Namco has taken, Tekken 7 will go without a doubt as one of the best gaming releases of 2017.
Probably one of the most heated rivalries in gaming, the culmination of years of hatred and anguish finally came to burning close (literally) atop of a volcano between Heihachi Mishima, patriarch of the Mishima clan and his son, Kazuya Mishima, head of the G Corporation.
Jin Kazama, Kazuya’s son was AWOL during the entire story mode. Pfff…

But the rivalry starts when Kazuya, aged (maybe) 5, tried to avenge his mother, Kazumi’s death by taking on his father. But that didn’t end for little Kazuya. Why? He got his ass thrown off a cliff for being weak.

But what Heihachi didn’t expect was for Kazuya to survive, thus igniting the decades-long rivalry. What we don’t know is why did Heihachi kill Kazumi?
What we don’t know is why did Heihachi kill Kazumi? What was Heihachi’s motivation for trying to kill Kazuya? And his grandson, Jin? And what does he want to do with Jin, since Heihachi intend on finding him alive? And why did Jin go missing in the first place? And what role does (uncle) Lars Alexandersson have in this feud? And most importantly…
WHAT ROLE DOES AKUMA (OF STREET FIGHTER FAME) HAVE IN THIS FEUD???

Tekken 7 is brilliantly done and finally fills the gaps that were left by previous Tekken titles. As difficult as playing the story mode, aptly named The Mishima Origins, Heihachi blocking like crazy and Akuma so damn hard to defeat, Tekken 7 also closes the chapter between Heihachi and Kazuya with a final drop into the volcano (spoiler!).
Gameplay: 9/10 • Difficulty: 7/10 • Graphics & Sounds: 8/10
It was extremely easy to get into the game, considering the last time I played any Tekken game was Tekken 5. The graphics do get patchy at times but the music is ridiculously catchy. However, I did struggle when playing the story mode and the treasure battle where you can up your characters’ rankings so setting it to intermediate (three stars) did give me a run for my money and plenty of raging ensued.
Overall, Tekken 7 gets a double thumbs up and a solid 8/10.
