Beginner’s Guide to Tekken 7 Characters

Whether you’re familiar with the Tekken franchise or not, Tekken 7 has had an impressive opening weekend since its release on June 2.

Tekken 7’s roster of fighters include faces of old and new. Nine characters have been included in this game, which are Kazumi, Katarina, Gigas, Shaheen, Josie, Lucky Chloe, Claudio and Akuma.

Now, Tekken isn’t an easy game and the characters reflect that too. There are some characters that are easy (not easy to master) and should serve as a platform one you get progressively good.

At this moment, I’m rotating my two mains, Asuka Kazama and Ling Xiaoyu. Asuka is a disciplined and quite a defensive character whereas Xiaoyu is the total opposite. Some of the fighters are really good in terms of move sets but if you’re looking for user- friendly characters, here are my top picks:

Alisa Bosconovitch

unnamed

Alisa, like Xiaoyu, relies on their speed and agility against their opponents. Her jabs and quick dashes across the battle arena and be slightly tricky for opponents to really ground her, however, she may be fast and nimble in the air, she’s the same on the ground especially with her low kicks, A versatile character with a rather interesting backstory.

Asuka Kazama

Now, as mentioned above, Asuka Kazama is one of my mains right now and there’s a good reason why she’s probably one of the best female fighters in Tekken. And yes, she is somewhat related to Jun Kazama (Jin’s mother). Asuka uses long-range combat, thanks to her training with her father in the dojo. If you use characters with short-range combat will have difficulty trying to approach her and that’s her advantage.

Bob

unnamed (1)

Bob’s the name and his rather large body is his game. Quite like Birdy from Street Fighter V, Bob has the exact same strength capability. He’s quite fast but don’t be too quick to write him off. He can do a huge amount of damage to one’s health bar and he can equally dish out the punishment.

Katarina Alves

One of the new additions to Tekken 7, Brazilian Savate fighter Katarina Alves, much like Christie Monteiro, is the more user-friendly of the picks. However, as much as she can do damage, it often leaves her wide open for oncoming attacks, so it takes a bit of practice to know how to prevent that from occurring. But she specialises in high attacks which can work against characters who’d prefer a more ground-and-pound situation.

Kazumi Mishima (not Devil Kazumi)

unnamed (2)

Kazumi Mishima may have some mystery to her name and legacy, but she can stand on her own, without having to tap into Devil Kazumi. Her highly effective kicks can take down anyone, even if you’re in the air (that happened a couple of times) and she has a companion, a tiger which can tag-team  in battle. She does, however, have the least amount of move sets so you may use some moves a couple of times throughout battle.
