Microsoft today relaunched its gaming streaming service, Mixer (formerly Beam).
According to Mixer’s co-founder Matt Salsamendi in a blog post, “Why the name change? This was a tough decision and not one that we made lightly.”
“But, it was something that we decided on as a team. We believe so much in the power of the platform and want to grow it in every major market around the world. Unfortunately, that wasn’t something we could do with the Beam name,” he further wrote.
So, what exactly does Mixer have that Beam didn’t???
Firstly, it now allows co-op streaming, which is available today on Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. This allows players, using the Mixer service, to party up and live stream together, combining multiple streams into one split-screen view. This feature will work extremely well in games like Overwatch, allowing viewers to view different strategies from four unique players.
Also available on Mixer is the interactive streaming feature that lets players effectively change gameplay on its supported titles.
According to the company, this effectively will become the best streaming alternative as its low-latency streaming runs less than a second delay than its competitors. Subsequently, a mobile app was launched, Mixer Crate supports self-broadcasting as the company aims to live stream mobile apps in the near future.
Mixer is available on the Xbox One dashboard, so expect an update soon.
